Figures released by the government on Thursday showed about 400,000 foreign nationals living in South Korea illegally without documents. In such a situation, if the government takes any step in the coming days, then these people may have to face a huge problem.

About 20 percent of foreign nationals are illegal

A report by YONHAP News Agency said that in July, 3,95,068 foreign nationals were living in the country without valid visas, according to data compiled by the Ministry of Justice. This number is about 20 percent of the total population of foreign nationals in South Korea. At present, this number may also increase, as this figure is for July.

The number of illegal immigrants is close to four lakh

Let us tell you that the number of foreign nationals living illegally in South Korea has increased continuously. According to the information, this figure was 3,88,000 in December last year, which increased to 3,92,000 in March and 3,94,000 in May. The data shows that the proportion of illegal foreigners out of the entire population of foreign nationals also increased from 15.5 percent in 2019 to 19.3 percent in 2020 and 19.9 percent in 2021.

Why the number of illegal immigrants is increasing

Regarding this report, the ministry says that there can be many reasons for illegal foreign nationals living in South Korea. He said that the main reason among these is the sealing of their borders by many countries to deal with COVID 19 due to which the citizens of that country have not been able to return to their country.
