Cable Bridge collapsed on Machchhu River in Morbi, Gujarat, Over 100 people feared trapped
The cable bridge over the Machchhu River in Gujarat's Morbi collapsed, leading to the death of thirty people. More than 300 people were on the bridge at the time of the accident. The bridge was about 200 years old, was built during the princely period.

Around 150 people on the bridge drowned due to the sudden collapse of the cable bridge on the Machchhu River river near Mani temple in Morbi town of Gujarat. 30 of them have died so far. It is estimated that 150 to 400 people were on the bridge when it collapsed. Presently good swimmers are saving lives by diving in the river near Swaminarayan Mandir. After getting information about the incident, apart from Minister Brijesh Merja, the rescue team has reached the spot. Rescue operation is going on now.
Expressing grief over the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sought information from Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and assured all possible help. He announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. Let us tell you that earlier this bridge was closed for renovation for 6 months. The bridge was opened for visitors on New Year's Day after being renovated at a cost of Rs 2 crore.

The swinging bridge built in Morbi about 500 years ago during the princely period suddenly broke down on Sunday evening. Around 300 people were present on the bridge, all of whom fell into the Machchhu River Along with the bridge, people who fell in the river were seen floating and climbing up through the cable of the bridge. Expressing grief over the incident, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel tweeted that he is in touch with the administration and teams of Fire, Health Department have been sent to provide all kinds of help to the victims. There are said to be more than three hundred people on the bridge. The number of people who fainted after falling down along the bridge is said to be considerable and the death toll in this accident may increase. Unconfirmed sources are confirming the death of 30 people so far.
