A branch of the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission on Saturday urged young people to avoid going to places of especially crowded places as the coronavirus continues to spread. Explain that Christmas is not traditionally celebrated in China. 

The spike in Omicron cases comes weeks after authorities in China abruptly ended their zero corona policy, testing requirements and travel restrictions.

There is also a shortage of beds and blood in the hospital and people have to wait for hours. City officials are also racing for medicines.

Shanghai usually hosts a large Christmas-themed market in a luxury shopping area along Nanjing West Road, and offers promotions to boost restaurant and retailer business but due to rising cases of Omicron, people Its effect is also being seen on festivals. 

Jacqueline Mokata, who works in the hospitality industry, said many Shanghai restaurants have canceled Christmas parties, which are usually held regularly, while hotels have put off reservations due to staff shortages.

In China, a person wrote on Weibo, a Twitter-like social network, that he would now stay indoors because most of his friends had been infected with the coronavirus. He said, I originally planned to go to Shanghai for Christmas but now I will be staying home. 

British-based health data firm Airfinity said this week that infections in China are likely to exceed 5,000 a day, with more than 5,000 deaths a day.

China's National Health Authority reported 4,128 daily symptomatic COVID-19 infections on Saturday and no deaths for the fourth day in a row.

Nearly 37 million people may have been infected with COVID in a single day last week, Bloomberg News reported on Friday, citing estimates from the government's top health authority. 

A local media organization said on Saturday that the emergency hotline in Taiyuan, in the northern province of Shanxi, was receiving more than 4,000 calls a day. Taiyuan officials urged residents to call the number only for medical emergencies.
