Fierce clash between Armenia and Azerbaijan, 49 Armenian soldiers killed in midnight attack

The Azerbaijani army opened massive shelling on the territory of Armenia, killing at least 49 Armenian soldiers. This fueled fears of large-scale hostilities between the two countries. Officials gave this information on Tuesday. Armenia and Russia have both agreed to stabilize the situation on the border after the firing, Armenia has alleged that Azerbaijani soldiers armed with deadly Turkish drones are trying to enter their territory. 

Azerbaijan and Armenia have had a decades-long conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, which has previously been part of Azerbaijan but has been under the control of ethnic Armenian forces backed by Armenia since a separatist war ended in 1994. Azerbaijan recaptured large territory of Nagorno-Karabakh in a six-week war in 2020 that killed more than 6,600 people and ended with a peace deal between Russia-brokers. Even in the war of 2020, these Turkish drone aircraft were made due to the defeat of Armenia. He said that the Armenian army has given a befitting reply to the attack by Azerbaijan. Spread over an area of ​​4,400 sq km, Armenian Christians and Muslim Turks live in this area, but it is controlled by Azerbaijan. The atmosphere here has been turbulent since the time of the Soviet Union. 

Russia deployed two thousand soldiers under the peace deal

Russia had deployed about 2,000 troops to the region to serve as peacekeepers under the agreement. Went in for broking early Tuesday morning, but it was not immediately clear whether the area was in their hold.

Azerbaijan's army attacked after midnight

Azerbaijan's army launched a massive artillery and drone strike in several parts of Armenian territory after midnight. Azerbaijan alleged that its army retaliated in response to massive provocations by the Armenian army. Claiming that Armenian soldiers planted mines and repeatedly fired at Azerbaijani military officers.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, speaking in parliament early Tuesday, said at least 49 Armenian soldiers had been killed in Azerbaijan firing. He said Azerbaijan's action was revealed after his recent EU-broker talks in Brussels with their President Ilham Aliyev, which he described as Azerbaijan's steadfast stance.

Russia asks both countries to exercise restraint

The Armenian government said that it would officially seek assistance from Russia under the friendship treaty. The United Nations and the Collective Security Treaty Organization will also appeal to the Moscow-dominated security coalition of former Soviet nations, which includes Armenia. There was no immediate comment from the Kremlin regarding the shooting. Russia's foreign ministry urged both countries to refrain from moving forward and to show restraint. Russia expressed hope that a ceasefire between Azerbaijan and Armenia would be discussed by Moscow on Tuesday morning. 

In this case, the US said that there cannot be a military solution to the dispute between Armenia and Azerbaijan. On the other hand, Turkey, an ally of Azerbaijan, asked Armenia to stop provocative actions in the region. Cooperate with Azerbaijan to establish peace.
