The five-member court team set up to hear Najib Razak's final appeal said they found unanimously that the high court judge had earlier delivered the right verdict and that Najib's appeal contained nothing to acquit him. With this, the court upheld Najeeb's sentence.

According to the Constitution of Malaysia, if a legislator is imprisoned for one year or more, then his membership in the parliament automatically ends. This can be avoided only if he applies for pardon to the king within 14 days of the conviction.

After coming to power in the year 2009, Najeeb had established 1MDB company. It was a government company owned by the Ministry of Finance. Najeeb is accused of embezzling $ 4.5 billion (about Rs 32 thousand crore) from the government investment fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB)
