Commercial and military airports also suffered significant damage.
President expressed grief over the deaths
President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has expressed grief over the death of 27 people. He said that not a single power line pole was spared in the area due to this Category 5 storm. Farmers' maize crops were ruined. Restoring power to the area is a top priority.
About 8,400 personnel from Mexico's army, air force and National Guard have been deployed to Acapulco, the Defense Ministry said.
