The Iranian government has come under pressure from the terrorist attack on a Shia mosque amid the anti-hijab movement. Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei on Thursday announced revenge for those playing with the country's security. In a statement given on state TV, he said that the attackers will definitely be punished. Calling it a conspiracy by the enemies of the country, he appealed to the people to unity.

Terrorist attack killed 15 people

On Wednesday, 15 people were killed in a terrorist attack on the Shah Chirag Mosque in Shiraz city. Khamenei said that we all have a duty to counter the enemies. Khamenei's appeal to his countrymen to unite is only from those loyal to the government, not the protesters who have been agitating for six weeks.

Amini's supporters raised slogans of Khamenei Murdabad

After the death in police custody of 22-year-old Mehsa Amini, who was arrested in Tehran for not following the Islamic dress code, supporters gathered on her 40th shouted Khamenei Murdabad.

Raisi called the protest a riot

According to the AP agency, Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi tried to link the attack on the Shia mosque to the six-week anti-hijab movement. Describing the protest as a riot, he said that this allowed the attack on the Shia mosque. However, he could not give any evidence for this.

Will not allow Iran to be destabilized - Foreign Minister

Iranian officials have said they have caught a gunman who was involved in the attack on the mosque. State media have blamed the attack on 'Takfiri' militants, who in Iran are considered a radical Sunni Muslim terrorist group like the Islamic State. Iran's Foreign Minister Hussein Amirabdollahian said that we will not allow Iran to be destabilized at any cost.
