Vice President Election: Jagdeep Dhankhar will be the 14th Vice President of the country, Alva said this after the defeat

Vice President Election: NDA has won in the Vice Presidential election.  With this, National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate and former West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has been elected as the new Vice President of the country.  NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar got 528 votes in the Vice Presidential election, while the opposition candidate Margaret Alva got 182 votes.  After losing the Vice Presidential election, Margaret Alva said that some parties and their leaders have damaged their credibility by directly or indirectly supporting the BJP.

Jagdeep Dhankhar will be the new Vice President of the country

Former West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar will be the new Vice President of the country.  Officials said that a total of 725 MPs had voted in this election, out of which 710 votes were found valid, 15 ballots were found invalid.  Now 71-year-old Dhankhar will be the new Vice President of the country and Chairman of Rajya Sabha in place of M Venkaiah Naidu.  He will be the 14th Vice President of India.  Naidu's term ends on August 10.

 Margaret Alva congratulates Jagdeep Dhankhar

After the declaration of the election results, Margaret Alva congratulated Jagdeep Dhankhar and also thanked the opposition leaders and MPs who supported him as the common opposition candidate.  Margaret Alva tweeted, "Congratulations to Mr. Dhankhar on being elected Vice President.  I thank all the opposition leaders and MPs who voted for me in this election.  I would also like to thank all the volunteers who gave their selfless service during this short but intense election campaign.

More than 50 MPs did not exercise their franchise

About 93 percent of the MPs, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Congress President Sonia Gandhi, voted in the Vice Presidential election, while more than 50 MPs did not exercise their franchise.  Of the 780 MPs who were eligible to vote, 725 exercised their franchise.  Voting started at 10 am and ended at 5 pm.

TMC stayed away from Vice Presidential election

The total number of members of both the houses of Parliament together is 788, out of which eight seats of the Upper House are currently vacant.  In such a situation, 780 MPs were eligible to vote in the Vice Presidential election.  The Trinamool Congress stayed away from this election as per its earlier announcement.  It has a total of 36 MPs in both the houses.
