Adarsh Iyengar: The Visionary Musician Behind Meaningful Creations
Adarsh Iyengar is not just a celebrated musician; he’s a storyteller with a purpose. Over the years, he has carved a niche for himself by creating content that goes beyond entertainment, blending art with powerful social messages. Whether it’s through his music videos or films, every project from his production house, Ishtakaamya Keshava Productions and Cinematics (formerly SriKrishna Productions), is crafted to resonate with audiences on both an emotional and intellectual level. With a signature mix of compelling storytelling and cinematic excellence, Adarsh ensures his work is not only relatable but also thought-provoking, striking a chord instantly.
Roots in Tradition, Blossoming in Innovation
Born and raised in Shimoga, Karnataka, Adarsh hails from a lineage deeply rooted in Carnatic music. His family has an ancestral connection to Padma Bhushana Sangeetha Kalanidhi Veena maestro Doreswamy Iyengar, which influenced his early musical journey. Adarsh’s exposure to the rich cultural heritage of Shimoga, home to legendary poets like Kuvempu, played a key role in shaping his artistic path.
At just seven years old, Adarsh performed his first stage show, singing a Bhaavageethe penned by Kuvempu, and won a district-level competition. This early success ignited his passion for music, leading him to actively participate in local events and gain popularity in his hometown.
A New Chapter in Bangalore
In 2008, Adarsh moved to Bangalore to pursue a career in technology. However, music was never far behind. His first TV appearance came in the form of Asianet Suvarna TV’s ‘Star Singer Season 2,’ where he gained widespread recognition, despite being eliminated in the pre-quarters. This appearance led to performances as a celebrity singer on shows like ‘Nodi Swami Naav Irode Heege’ on Asianet Suvarna and ‘Nodi Swami Ansatte Hadode Heege’ on Kasturi Channel.
Adarsh’s talent soon reached international stages when he became a finalist in Zee TV Kannada’s ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa – North American Chapter’ in 2016. His time working with popular music directors and performing in concerts across Karnataka gave him invaluable experience in the entertainment industry.
Finding His Way in the US
In 2014, Adarsh moved to the United States to further his tech career. However, the transition wasn’t easy. Between 2014 and 2019, Adarsh admits these were some of the most confusing years of his life, as he struggled to balance his passion for music with his professional commitments. During this period, he served as the Cultural Director of Richmond Kannada Sangha (2016–2018), but it wasn’t until a fateful encounter with Hemanth Jois, an award-winning musician, in Richmond, Virginia, that Adarsh reignited his passion for music. He credits Jois, versatile singer Chethan Naik, and director Rakshith Thirthahalli for their unwavering support in helping him reconnect with his creative roots.
A Renaissance During the Pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic became a turning point for Adarsh. With the world at a standstill, he seized the opportunity to dive back into music, collaborating with a variety of artists to produce content that touched hearts and minds.
His impactful singles—like the emotional tribute to friendship, “My Friend,” the patriotic anthem “Jaya He,” the reflective “Forever,” the socially conscious “Hope,” which shines a light on Vitiligo disability, and the poignant “Quit,” which addresses drug abuse—quickly gained recognition. His environmentally focused music video ‘Belake’ further showcased his commitment to merging art with activism.
The Future of Ishtakaamya Keshava Productions
Adarsh’s production house is not slowing down. Their first commercial film, ‘Timmana Mottegalu,’ based on environmental awareness and divine beliefs, garnered critical acclaim, winning the Special Mention Jury Award at the prestigious 14th Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival in April 2024 and was officially selected for the Kolkata International Film Festival
in December 2023. The film’s upcoming release is highly anticipated.
Additionally, another powerful project from his production house has recently completed filming, with details to be announced soon.
Adarsh Iyengar’s journey from a small town in Karnataka to the international stage is nothing short of inspiring. With a blend of tradition, innovation, and a commitment to meaningful storytelling, Adarsh continues to captivate audiences worldwide. As he says, the best is yet to come.
