Roger Binny, a member of the 1983 World Cup winning team, is now going to be seen in a new role. He has been appointed as the new President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Roger Binny will replace former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly. This decision was taken in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of BCCI held on Tuesday.

Roger Binny BCCI President: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has got a new president. Roger Binny has become the new president by replacing Sourav Ganguly. Roger has been a member of the 1983 World Cup winning team. This decision was taken at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of BCCI held on Tuesday.

Roger Binny has become the 36th President of BCCI. Earlier, Sourav Ganguly was holding this post since 2019. Some time ago, there were hopes of extending the tenure of Gangli itself. But within a few days the equations changed and Ganguly left. 

Binny elected president unopposed

Let us tell you that 67-year-old Roger Binny was the only candidate for the post of BCCI President. No one had nominated except him. In such a situation, Binny was elected unopposed in the AGM. Jai Shah was re-elected secretary for the second consecutive term. Apart from these two other office bearers who were elected unopposed include Treasurer Ashish Shelar, Vice President Rajiv Shukla and Joint Secretary Devjit Saikia. Outgoing treasurer Arun Dhumal got a place in the IPL Governing Council along with Abhishek Dalmiya. Dhumal will be the new chairman of IPL. He will replace Brijesh Patel.

Roger Binny is the president of Karnataka State Cricket Association. But now he will leave this post as soon as he becomes the BCCI President. Binny has been a medium pace bowler of his time. He played 8 matches in the 1983 World Cup, taking 18 wickets.

Ganguly turns down IPL chairman's offer

The PTI report said that a few days ago, stakeholders had a meeting with Sourav Ganguly in New Delhi. In this, Ganguly had expressed his desire that he wants to continue as the BCCI President. But the stakeholders had told that this is not possible to happen. Although now sources said that Ganguly was also offered the post of IPL chairman, but he turned down the offer.

Roger Binny's international record

Roger Binny appeared in 27 Tests and 72 One Day Internationals for India during 1979–87. He made his international debut in the year 1979 through the Bangalore Test against Pakistan. Binny took 47 wickets in Test career at an average of 3.63.

At the same time, 77 wickets are recorded in his name in One Day International at an average of 29.35. Roger Binny was adept at contributing a lot with the bat as well. He has 830 runs in Tests and 629 runs in One Day Internationals in his name.
