Big relief to Imran Khan, got bail from the court in the case of controversial remarks

An anti-terrorism court in Islamabad in Pakistan on Thursday granted interim bail to PTI chief and former prime minister Imran Khan in a case registered against him for his controversial remarks about a woman judge during a rally in the capital last week. Apart from Imran, many leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have been nominated.

Justice Raja Jawad Abbas Hasan granted bail to Imran till September 1 on a surety of one lakh rupees. Imran's bail plea was filed in the court today ahead of his arrival, with the petitioner arguing that the terrorism case against the PTI chief was registered by the police as an "act of retaliation".

Case for violating the ban

A few days ago, a case was registered against Prime Minister Imran Khan and top leaders of his party 'PTI' for violating the ban on holding public events in the country's capital Islamabad. Imran had addressed a protest meeting in Islamabad on 20 August.

Holding the party leadership responsible for violating Section 144, the police registered a case at Aabpara police station in Islamabad on Monday. Apart from 69-year-old Imran Khan, several leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have been named in the FIR.

Tight security outside the court during the hearing

Earlier, the Islamabad High Court had decided to initiate contempt proceedings against former Prime Minister Imran Khan for making controversial remarks about a woman judge during a rally here.

Earlier, before the court hearing, security was tightened around the Federal Judicial Complex, where police and Frontier Corps personnel were deployed. Roads around the court complex were also blocked.

Meanwhile, PTI called on its supporters to "get out on the streets and then go to Islamabad the next day" if Imran Khan is taken into custody.
