Brazil Protest: protest against Riot continues in Brazil, demanding for strict action; 1500 rioters arrested

Thousands of Brazilians took to the streets on Monday to protest the violence, the second day of vandalism at Brazil's Parliament, Supreme Court and Presidential Palace. The streets echoed with slogans of 'no apology, no apology, no apology to the rioters'. Meanwhile, Brazilian authorities have said they are investigating who may have been behind the sudden disturbance, which sparked an incident similar to the US Capitol violence. So far 1500 rioters involved in the incident have been arrested. 

Protest against violence in Brazil

Demonstrators took to the streets in a rally after gathering at the University of São Paulo's La College hall on Monday afternoon (local time) to protest the violence. They were carrying protest posters and banners in their hands. Betty Amin, a 61-year-old doctor who participated in the rally on São Paulo's main boulevard, said: "These people need to be punished, who plotted violence in constitutional institutions." 'Democracy' was written on the back of Amin's shirt. 

Criticism of vandalism in Brazil

In a meeting with governors on Monday, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula de Silva criticized police for vandalizing government buildings, the presidential palace, Congress and the Supreme Court in the capital Brasilia, reports CNN. Said, 'Brasilia police ignored the threat of attack. His intelligence unit had failed. Let us inform that Bolsonaro supporters, who did not accept Lula's victory in the presidential election, became enraged by Lula's swearing-in. On Sunday, he entered the Parliament House of Brazil, the Supreme Court and the President's House and ransacked it. 

Bolsonaro has not sought Italian citizenship

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has denied that Bolsonaro has sought Italian citizenship. On the other hand, the White House has also said that it has not received any request from the Brazilian government regarding Bolsonaro. Pressure is mounting on US President Joe Biden to send Bolsonaro back to Brazil. 

Bolsonaro hospitalized for abdominal pain

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was admitted to a US hospital on Monday, the next day after the incident. He has been admitted to a hospital in Orlando, Florida after complaining of stomach pain. Bolsonaro arrived in the US two days before his term was due to expire following the victory of Luiz Inácia Lula de Silva in the presidency of Brazil.
