The blast is the latest in a series of fatalities targeting Friday prayers at mosques in recent months. Terrorist groups continue to target mosques in Afghanistan. Kabul police chief confirms casualties
Confirming the Kabul police chief's spokesman, Khalid Zadran, said, "The explosion occurred when people tried to come out of the mosque after the prayer." All the casualties are civilians, the exact number is not yet clear.
The Italian-NGO-run emergency hospital said the blast targeted 14 people, four of whom were killed. The blast occurred in Wazir Akbar Khan, formerly home to the city's 'Green Zone', the site of several foreign embassies and NATO, but now controlled by the ruling Taliban.
Interior minister's spokesman Abdul Nafi Taqor said the blast happened on the main road near the mosque. He said the reasons were being probed. Takore said that police teams are at the spot and the matter is being investigated.
