IND vs AUS T20: Rohit explains why Umesh Yadav was included in place of Shami
India captain Rohit Sharma told during the press conference why Umesh Yadav was included after Mohammed Shami was ruled out of the T20 series. He told that Umesh has proved himself before the new ball
Fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match T20I series against Australia. Confirming this, BCCI has replaced Umesh Yadav in his place. Umesh has also reached Chandigarh and if everything goes well then in the first T20 match, he will also be seen playing in the playing XI. While addressing the press conference before the practice session, captain Rohit Sharma explained why Umesh Yadav was given preference over the rest of the bowlers.
Rohit said that Umesh Yadav is a quality bowler who has proved himself and has given the team a good option with the new ball. Umesh Yadav has not played an International T20 match for the last 3 years He played his last T20 match against Australia in Visakhapatnam in February 2019 and his last ODI match was against West Indies in Visakhapatnam in 2018.
So when the captain was asked about his inclusion, he said that we had some options. Famous is injured, Siraj is playing county and we didn't want to call him for just a game or two. Avesh was ill in the Asia Cup, it will take him time to rebuild his fitness.
He said bowlers like Umesh Yadav and Shami don't need to play a particular format to be successful. He has proved himself. Youngsters need to be proved but they don't. They will be recalled if they are fit and available. We don't need to look at the form, we saw how well Umesh Yadav bowled in the IPL. He gives us the option to go ahead with the new ball, swing the ball, bowl fast so there is not much debate about him.
