Former West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has been elected as the 14th Vice President of the country.  In the election for the post of Vice-President held on Saturday, he defeated the joint opposition candidate Margaret Alva as the NDA candidate.  Dhankhar got 528 votes, while Alva got only 182 votes.  A total of 725 MPs took part in the election, out of which 710 votes were found valid and 15 ballots were found invalid.  Let us tell you that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla represents the Kota parliamentary constituency.  At the same time, Dhankhar, the new Vice President and the new Chairman of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, also belongs to Jhunjhunu.  That is, the heads of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha are now from Rajasthan.

Jagdeep Dhankhar was born on 18 May 1951 in Kithana village of Jhunjhunu.  Father's name is Gokal Chand and mother's name is Kesari Devi.  He comes second among his four siblings.  The initial education was done from the government school in the village Kithana itself.  After studying from the village till the fifth standard, he was admitted to the Government Middle School in Gardhana.  When he was in class VI, he used to walk 4-5 kms to a government school.  After this he also studied in Sainik School of Chittorgarh.  After completing his graduation in Physics, he took LLB from Rajasthan University.  Dhankhar practiced in both the Rajasthan High Court and the Supreme Court.

Devi Lal gave a chance in politics, became a minister by winning

Dhankhar started his politics with Janata Dal.  Devi Lal had fielded him as the opposition candidate from Jhunjhunu parliamentary constituency, a Congress stronghold, in 1989 and Dhankhar won.  After this he emerged as a Jat leader.  Dhankhar became a Union minister in 1990 in the minority government led by Chandrashekhar.  However, when the Janata Dal cut Dhankhar's ticket in the 1991 Lok Sabha elections, he left the party and joined the Congress.  Contested in 1993 on Congress party ticket from Kishangarh in Ajmer and became MLA.  In 2003, he got disillusioned with the Congress and left the Congress and joined the BJP.  In July 2019, Dhankhar was made the Governor of West Bengal.
