A fire has broken out in a shopping center in the southwestern city of Zigong in China. 16 people died in this incident. According to information received from the official news agency Xinhua, a fire was reported in a 14-storey commercial building after 6 pm on Wednesday.
The fire brigade and rescue workers are trying to get people out. This team of rescue workers kept trying to save people till 3 am.

947 people died in fires till May
Fire hazards and other fatalities are very common in China, with 947 people dying from fires till May 20, a 19 percent increase from last year. A spokesperson for the National Fire and Rescue Administration says that fire incidents in public places like hotels and restaurants have increased by 40 percent. The cause is usually attributed to faulty electrical or gas lines and negligence.
