The first agreement on BRI between Nepal and China was signed in 2017, but no significant progress has been made in this direction in the last five years. During this, views were exchanged on many issues related to common interests along with increasing bilateral trade, investment and connectivity.

China's clarification on BRI

Significantly, China's communist rulers are deeply hurt by the worldwide discredit of their Belt and Road Initiative as a debt trap. For the first time, the Chinese government has taken a defensive stand for this initiative and explained it. In the past, the Communist government has said, 'This is a bright path for everyone to progress unitedly. This is not the private route of any one party.

On September 8, a report was published in the People's Daily highlighting the stand of the rulers of China. The report said that co-creation reflects open and inclusive thinking, the wisdom to move forward together and the accountability to achieve shared growth. The report cites several examples to glorify China's generosity and help developing countries.
