At least 600 people were displaced as 2,682 buildings and apartments were flooded due to heavy rains. More than 20,000 cattle also died during this period and many acres of land was destroyed.
9 dead, 7 missing
With the continuous rains, the central government and local governments have geared up. All have expedited the repair of buildings and roads. However, the actual damage is expected to be ascertained only after investigation of the damages. According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, at least nine people were killed and 17 injured in the floods, while seven people are missing.
988 people lost their homes
Several casualties were reported from Seoul, Gyeonggi and Gangwon. At the same time, about 145 people have been rescued, including 85 in Gyeonggi, 44 in Incheon, nine in Gangwon and seven in Seoul. More than 1,200 people have temporarily moved to safer places after leaving their homes. 988 people have lost their homes due to the floods. Presently 1,471 people are residing in 103 temporary facilities such as community centres, schools, village halls. About 67 people have gone to their families and relatives' homes.
Meanwhile, the Korea Disaster Relief Association and the Red Cross have emerged as a messiah. Both have provided more than 21,000 items including tents, first aid and cooking supplies to the displaced people. People were also provided 1,700 health care items, 6,480 bottled water, 6,656 snacks etc. The government is in talks with relevant organizations like Aapda Relief Association to provide disaster relief material.
