Three pilots died in the US Army helicopter crash in Alaska during training

Two US military helicopters returning from training crashed in Alaska on Thursday, killing three pilots. This is the second accident involving military helicopters in the state this year. John Pennell, a spokesman for US Army Alaska, said each helicopter was carrying two people.

Accident in central Alaska

Three US Army pilots were killed after two Apache helicopters crashed in central Alaska while returning from a training mission, The Washington Post reported on Thursday, citing military officials. The 11th Airborne Division said on Facebook that an AH-64 Apache helicopter from Fort Wainwright crashed near Healy, Alaska.

The army unit, without giving details of the reasons behind the accident, said the incident was being investigated. Last month, nine soldiers were killed in a helicopter crash in Kentucky.

Investigation into the incident continues

A statement from US Army Alaska said the AH-64 Apache helicopters were from Fort Wainwright, located near Fairbanks. The incident is being investigated.

Two soldiers injured in helicopter crash in February

Austin McDaniel, a spokesman for the Alaska State Troopers, said two troopers were injured when an Apache helicopter crashed after taking off from Talkeetna in February. The plane was one of four flying from Fort Wainwright to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage.

Healy is located approximately 10 miles (16.09 km) north of Denali National Park and Preserve, or approximately 250 miles (402 km) north of Anchorage. Healy is a community of approximately 1,000 people located on the Parkes Highway in the Alaskan Interior. It's a favorite spot for people to spend the night in the nearby park, which is home to Denali, the tallest mountain on the continent.
