UK is committed to working quickly on free trade, It has been reviewed with PM Modi - Rishi Sunak

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that the UK government is determined to work as soon as possible to make the ongoing Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with India a success. Indian-origin British leaders told the House of Commons session on Thursday on the G-20 summit held in Indonesia that PM Sunak met Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the first time after assuming office at 10 Downing Street. During this he reviewed the progress on FTA with PM Modi. 

Free trade agreement with India has been discussed

During this, opposition Labor Party leader Keir Starmer and his own Conservative Party MPs asked him questions on the deadline for completing this agreement with India, in response to which he said, 'I discussed the free trade agreement with India. To make this a success, the Prime Minister of India and I have committed our teams to work on this as soon as possible. 

Important conversation has been done 

PM Sunak said, 'I am happy that by the end of October most of the important FTA negotiations with India have been completed. We will now work expeditiously with the Indian teams to try to resolve its other issues and reach a satisfactory conclusion. However, he declined to give more details publicly on the issue.

India is most important to Britain

Sunak said that our relationship and partnership with India is more important than trade relations. “I am also pleased to discuss enhancing our security cooperation with India,” he said. He said that we have also announced plans to enable the youth of India to come here and our youth to go to India. The PM said that such programs are a positive step for the youth of both the countries to be benefited.
