Several leaders including former Congress President Rahul Gandhi and General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were detained during the protest. The leaders involved in this demonstration were wearing black clothes.
Congress MPs including Rahul Gandhi protested in the Parliament House complex. After this, a march was taken towards Rashtrapati Bhavan as part of the nationwide movement against the increase in the scope of GST, price hike in the country. During the protest, Congress leaders raised slogans against the government. In this, there was a demand to withdraw the GST hike on essential items. Congress chief Sonia Gandhi stood with women MPs holding a banner outside Gate No-1 of Parliament during the protest.
However, the Delhi Police did not allow the protesters towards Rashtrapati Bhavan. Sonia Gandhi did not take part in the march. Police detained other MPs at Vijay Chowk. According to the report of news agency PTI, Rahul Gandhi, senior Congress leaders KC Venugopal, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and Gaurav Gogoi are among 64 MPs who were detained from Vijay Chowk in a police bus.
It is to be known that the Congress had announced a nationwide protest against inflation and unemployment. Under this, Congress Working Committee (CWC) members and senior party leaders had a plan to 'gherao' the Prime Minister's residence. Many Congress leaders and workers had gathered at the party headquarters in Delhi for this protest. Talking to reporters at Vijay Chowk, Rahul Gandhi said that we have come here to raise the issue of inflation. Democracy is being murdered.
